Department of Surgery diseases

The department was created by combining the Departments of Surgical Diseases No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3. Head of the department-Doctor of Medical Sciences, associate Professor Tuleubaev Berik Yerkebulanovich.

The Department of Hospital Surgery was organized in 1953 on the basis of two surgical departments of the 1st city clinical hospital in Karaganda. The Department of Traumatology, Orthopedics and Military-Field Surgery was established in 1958 on the basis of the clinical base “RCTO named professor H.Zh. Makazhanov”, in 2018 at the initiative of the administration of the university department merged.

The composition of the department:

The department constantly introduces new methods and technologies in the educational process. At present, practical training in the conditions of the Educational and Clinical Center is conducted in the subordinate and internship, the final certification of practical skills in the form of ESTC is also held there. Interactive and problem lectures were introduced, while conducting practical exercises in the subordinate and the Internet, elements of problem-oriented training and a portfolio of interns are used.

Over 30 training videos, a computer simulator for practicing skills in video endoscopic operations, a model of the chest and abdomen, a model of a brush, sets of tools, radiographs, analyzes, macropreparations, packages for blood transfusion, training equipment for suturing and tying knots deep wounds, slides, tables, folies, clinical cases. Organized specialized office for professional practice. For self-training of students, over 50 teaching aids were published in Russian, Kazakh and English, 2 books - Hospital Surgery in 2 volumes and Emergency Surgery, as well as a terminological dictionary (surgical) in the state language.

The clinical base of the department is the largest in the republic, the total bed capacity of the department over than 400 beds. The main base is the Regional Clinical Hospital, which is a large multidisciplinary medical institution, another main base – Multidisciplinary Hospital named after Kh. Zh. Makazhanov. 

In 1984, on the initiative of Professor S.V. Lokhvitsky, the unique Scientific-Educational-Production Association “Surgery” was organized, which really united the staff of the department and the Regional Clinical Hospital, which provided ample opportunities for providing highly qualified and specialized surgical assistance to the population, teaching and conducting research. For the first time in the Republic, Professor S.V. Lokhvitsky performed microsurgical replantations of the fingers and extremities, lymphovenous anastomoses for elephantiness, and trained microsurgeon cadres. Since 1995, endovideosurgery operations have been performed in the clinic. A number of new original methods of treatment of surgical patients have been developed, protected by more than 100 patents of the USSR, the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Russian Federation.

The teaching staff of the clinical bases of the department are among the most experienced - deputy directors Surgery Heads of Surgery Departments.

The main scientific directions of the department at present are the development, improvement and introduction into clinical practice of minimally invasive methods of surgical interventions and modern information technologies. Under the guidance of the department staff, 25 doctoral and 105 candidate dissertations were completed and defended, over 1000 scientific papers were published, of which over 20 monographs. Employees of the department are actively involved in the work of congresses, plenary meetings, conferences, symposia.

The department operates SNK. At meetings of the student scientific society, information on new technologies and techniques in surgery, the perspective of their practical application is presented. Students get acquainted with new editions of scientific periodicals, the requirements for writing scientific papers. During the work of SNK, over 20 students became winners and prize-winners of the Republican student work competitions. In 2006, Professor S.Lokhvitsky was conferred the title “Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, "The best surgeon of KSMU", Professor A.A. Nurbekov - "The best surgeon of the Karaganda region."
