Correspondence conference of educational and research works of students

The Correspondence conference of educational and research works of students on the topic of “Role of water supply, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in the fight against COVID-19 and other infectious diseases” was held on March 17, 2022 as part of the project “Capacity building in the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector in schools among the students of 11-18 years old for an effective response to the COVID-19 pandemic”, funded by the Association of Schools and Public Health Programs (Washington, USA).

The conference was attended by students of grades 5-11(12) of secondary educational institutions of the Karaganda city and presented the results of their projects. The students' projects were devoted to various problems in the WASH sector, such as:

-  instilling the habit of proper hand washing;

-  effective use of water in conditions of limited resources;

-  the role of adequate access to WASH in the prevention of various diseases;

-  ways to prevent COVID-19 with proper WASH;

-  the role of international programs in providing the population with safe WASH; and etc.

According to the results of the conference, 6 best projects were awarded diplomas of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd degrees. Certificates and handouts branded with the logo “This Is Public Health” Global Grant Program of the Association of Schools and Public Health Programs (Washington, USA) were also prepared for all participants. The awarding of the winners and participants took place within the walls of each school in the period from April 4 to 8, 2022.

The conference was the result of the training of students at the Gymnasium named after S. Seifullin, Gymnasium named after Al-Farabi and Gymnasium №. 9 in the period from September 2021 to February 2022 by members of the research group of the above-mentioned project.

The secondary school administrations thanked the organizers of the conference for the opportunity and expressed a desire to continue fruitful cooperation.
