Annual Meeting of Representatives of the Association of Schools and Public Health Programs

The Annual Meeting of the Association of Schools and Public Health Programs (Washington, USA) 2022 was held from March 22 to 24, 2022. 

Within the framework of this meeting, 2 plenary and 43 concurrent sessions were held, where more than 190 presenters spoke. This meeting was attended by academic leaders of public health, teachers, students and representatives of the public health community from around the world. 

Numerous discussions were held where participants shared new strategies and tools to strengthen public health education, practice and research. The following important issues were discussed:

-  Education for public health in the post-COVID-19 world;

-  Climate change and health: The defining issue of our time;

-  Achieving health equity in rural areas: The role of academic public health;

-  Support for mental health resilience of staff and students;

-  Global equality in vaccination;

-  Progress towards achieving equality in the field of health and elimination of discrimination in academic public health;

-  Social determinants, data and decision-making;

-  The best labor market for the worst reasons: The impact of COVID-19 on the employment opportunities of graduates of the public health system and new career resources, and others.

At this meeting, Karaganda Medical University was represented by PhD, Associate Professor of the School of Public Health and Biomedicine Alua Omarova, who was invited as an awardee of the Global Grant Program «This is Public Health». She presented the results of the completed project «Capacity building in the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector in schools among the students of 11-18 years old for an effective response to the COVID-19 pandemic», which was funded by the Association of Schools and Public Health Programs from March 15, 2021 to March 14, 2022. Following the results of the Annual Meeting, a letter of thanks was received on behalf of the President and Executive Director of the Association of Schools and Public Health Programs, Dr. Laura Magano.

The objective of the Annual meetings of the Association of Schools and Public Health Programs is to provide timely, relevant sessions and information, as well as to facilitate important discussions that advance our common mission to create a healthier world.
