New in treatment of diabetes mellitus

On March 17, 2023, on the basis of Internal Diseases Department, a meeting of the Journal Club was held under the leadership of Assoc. Professors Amirkhanova D.T., Bacheva I.V., where modern algorithms of the diabetes mellitus treatment from the position of cardiorenal protection were discussed. The meeting was attended by residents of different specialties of therapeutic profile, physician-interns. At the meeting of the Journal Club reports were made by residents-endocrinologists Negmanova A.M., Alimkhanova L.E., resident nephrologist Muslimov N.R., resident cardiologists Serikova J., Tokmetova A.

The main provisions of ADA 2022, the choice of antidiabetic drugs depending on the prevailing risks of cardiovascular disease, heart failure, chronic kidney disease, the need for weight loss, minimizing hypoglycemia were discussed. The residents covered the mechanisms of action of modern groups of hypoglycemic drugs, such as SGLT-2 inhibitors, GLP-1 receptor agonists, and reported on the main scientific studies confirming their nephro- or cardioprotective properties. The current knowledge about the possibility of using SGLT2 inhibitors in patients with chronic kidney disease, heart failure in patients without diabetes mellitus was discussed. Residents of different specialties exchanged knowledge, actively participated in the discussion, asked questions, and at the end the results of the meeting were summed up.
