"Education of the Future: Winds of Change".

This is the title of VI Central Asian International Scientific and Practical Conference on Medical Education is held on April 20-21, 2023 at Karaganda Medical University. 

The aim of the conference is development of international cooperation, strategic partnership and transfer of experience in medical education. Representatives of the RK Ministry of Health, experts, heads of educational organizations, scientists, teachers and students of universities of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Russia, Georgia, Germany, France, India, USA take part in it.

At the plenary session Head of Medical Education Department of Science and Human Resources Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan Isdenov Aset Kayratovich informed the participants about current trends in medical education in Kazakhstan. In his speech he noted the availability of medical personnel in the republic: doctors (78227 pcs.units) and nurses (188 800 pcs.units), shortage of medical personnel and measures taken to address it. Among them are annual salary increase (today its average level for doctor exceeds 500 thousand tenge, for nurse - 200 thousand tenge), distribution of medical graduates to the regions and their social support. The speaker spoke in detail about the system of doctors' training in Kazakhstan and independent assessment of competencies.

"Transformation of medical education: the experience of Karaganda Medical University" was the topic of the speech of Ricklefs Victor Petrovich, Vice-rector for Strategic Development and International Cooperation of NCJSC "KMU".  He focused on the educational programs of the university, credit technology of education, continuous development of teachers, and support for students.

- Karaganda Medical University set the development of digital infrastructure as one of its strategic objectives. At the moment, almost all the processes at the university are digitalized, and the created digital infrastructure is ready for further implementation of modern technologies, - stressed Victor Petrovich.

Areas of the conference included: strategic partnerships; digital transformation of education and digital medicine; internationalization of education; university autonomy and academic freedom; educational perspectives in medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, and nursing; integration of clinic, science, and education; and simulation in education.

The conference included an exhibition of books, medical products, simulation simulators and mannequins.

As it was noted by the participants, simulation training in medicine is one of the progressive methods, which allows not only to teach future doctors certain skills, but also to minimize negative influence on the patient both during the verbal contact with him and at carrying out of diagnostic or therapeutic manipulations. These techniques make the teaching process more effective without putting the patient at risk.

Also, the program includes round table "Problems and perspectives in residency training", poster session of young scientists, SimLab online competition to develop clinical scenarios, international student competition, student conference on pharmacy.
