Specificity of work in the field of medicine and health care requires a special approach at recruitment of future specialists for training in the medical university. Proceeding from this, KSMU focuses on working with applicants. The purpose of the university career-oriented guidance is correct orientation of applicants for professional self-determination, which implies the awareness of choice for future professional activity in accordance with the personal characteristics and labor market needs.

The spring months are the most favorable period for the main events of vocational guidance activities designed to work with the students of schools and colleges.

One of the important links in the career-oriented activities of the university are to work of  the university staff with the students within the Small Academy of Sciences, the results of which are evaluated during the traditional annual regional scientific-practical conference of Central Kazakhstan Branch of Small Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Once again, the students demonstrated their first achievements of the research activity at the 44th Regional Scientific and Practical Conference, which took place on April 3-4, 2014 in the Karaganda State Medical University.

Participation of KSMU in the annual exhibition of traditional "Entrant 2014" conducted by the Public Association "Youth Movement for the Future of Kazakhstan" in the regional museum enables direct communication of students of schools and colleges of Karaganda city and Karaganda region. A the exhibition of this year, on April 2-3, the university was presented by the university’s teachers of the department of nursing, pharmaceutical disciplines with chemistry course, epidemiology and hygiene, food hygiene, general hygiene and ecology, children’s diseases № 1 and № 2, surgical diseases № 1 and № 2 , tuberculosis, internal diseases № 1, pediatric dentistry and dental surgery, with a course of therapeutic dentistry, prosthetic dentistry, emergency medical care, and medical college teachers of KSMU.

One of the active methods of work with applicants is holding the Open Day. Doors of the University were opened on April 11 for all comers. Deans and representatives of the medical college of KSMU widely covered issues related disciplines, particularly health worker profession, the educational process, student life and more. Representatives from the admissions committee learned guests about the conditions and rules of admission to the university.

It should be noted the invaluable help of applicants to become familiar with the peculiarities of the medical profession of teachers of anatomy, who make trips for students in the anatomical museum during the school year.

Educational Center will help applicants to receive directly experience of a future profession, to get acquainted with the training dummies and virtual simulators. Virtual tour of the center is available to everyone on the website of the university.

Preparation for entrance exams, as well as the role of the first mentors is performed by teachers of preparatory courses of the college.

Along with this, applicants receive the constant information support from the university website, print advertising, and turning on issues of interest to the experts by phone, e-mail, through the virtual reception of rector, deans, admission committee and more.

This year, the Olympiad, debates and numerous other activities undertaken within the framework of the Days of the university promoted to direct acquaintance of pupils with the university, in addition to traditional career guidance activities.
