The mission of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Evidence-Based Medicine is to train students who have modern clinical and pharmacological thinking, who are able to interpret the results of clinical trials of drugs, adequately select and prescribe the most effective and safe drugs, their combinations and dosage regimens, taking into account evidence-based medicine data, availability concomitant diseases, the physiological profile of the patient in a specific clinical situation, predict and identify in the early stages emerging side and undesirable effects of medicinal substances and carry out their correction taking into account the course of the disease.

From the history

In 1988, realizing the importance of continuity between general and clinical pharmacology, the Course of Clinical Pharmacology was founded on the basis of the Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation of the Karaganda State Medical Institute.From 1988 to 1992, the clinical pharmacology course was led by Associate Professor AKSHABAYEVA KAIRZHAN AKYLBEKOVNA.

Kalieva Sh.S. is the Vice-President of the professional Association of Clinical Pharmacologists and Pharmacists of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a member of the European Association of Clinical Pharmacologists and Therapists, an independent reviewer of the WHO Euro-Office on the Policy of Containing Antimicrobial Resistance in Kazakhstan based on solving the problem of irrational use of antimicrobial drugs; Chairman of the committee of educational programs in clinical pharmacology within the framework of the State Unitary Enterprise Educational Institution of Medical Universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan, independent academic expert on accreditation of basic, postgraduate medical education and scientific training, deputy chairman of the regional formulary commission of the Regional Department of Health in the Karaganda region, deputy. Chairman of the Formal Commission of NJSC “MUK”, member of the Expert Group on Coronavirus Infection of OUZ KO, member of the Council of Independent Experts of NJSC “MUK”, member of the Ethics Commission of NJSC “MUK”.

From 2015 to 2017 Kalieva Sh.S. By order of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, she was appointed chief freelance clinical pharmacologist of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Since 2022 - chief freelance clinical pharmacologist of the Regional Health Department for the Karaganda region. 2023 – Scholarship holder of the Center for International Programs “Bolashak” in the specialty of Clinical Pharmacology

Developer of more than 30 clinical protocols for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, including “Coronavirus infection - Covid-19”. During 2020-2023, 228 consultations were held, more than 350 seriously ill patients were consulted, more than 40 independent examinations of complex clinical cases, and 900 clinical and pharmacological examinations were conducted.

Kalieva Sh.S. – author and co-author of more than 173 publications, of which 35 international publications, 4 textbooks for students of medical universities - “Clinical pharmacology and rational pharmacotherapy” (2 volumes) “Rational pharmacotherapy in rheumatology”, “Rational pharmacotherapy in gastroenterology” in the state and Russian languages , 26 textbooks for medical students and doctors, 3 monographs, 13 certificates of state registration of rights to an object of copyright, h-index - 3 (Scopus), 2- (Web of Science), 8- Google Scholar. Under the leadership of Kalieva Sh.S. 1 PhD, 6 masters in the specialty “Medicine” were trained. Currently, 3 PhD doctoral students are being trained

In 2004, she was awarded the badge “Kazakhstan Respublikasy densaulyk saktau isinin uzdigi” of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 2006, she was awarded the badge “Honorary Worker of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan” by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 2015 she was awarded the medal. Pospelov for his contribution to the development of KSMU. In 2020 – awarded the State award - the medal “Eren Enbegi Ushin”. In 2022 - awarded the Altyn Dariger medal of the National Medical Association for her contribution to the development of the healthcare system of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Main directions of scientific researche mployees of the department are researching towards improving the system of rational use of medicines: studying the rational use of medicines, pharmacoepidemiological monitoring of the rational use of medicines for diseases of the cardiovascular system, improving the drug supply system, pharmacoeconomic research, developing new approaches to the treatment of giardiasis, neurodegenerative diseases, new coronavirus infection Covid-19. Study of new herbal medicines. Conducting research in the field of medical education, participation in international projects of the European Union Erasmus+. Clinical trials of drugs phase 1-3

Medical advisory work by the staff of the department is currently carried out at 7 clinical bases: MSE "Multidisciplinary Hospital named after Prof. H. J. Makazhanov", MSE "Regional Children's Clinical Hospital", MSE "Regional Neuropsychiatric Dispensary", University Clinic of NAO "MUK", Dental Clinic of NAO "MUK", "Institute of Public Health and Occupational Health", MSE "Polyclinic No.5 Karaganda".

  The department actively cooperates with the Regional Health Department of the Karaganda region on the work of the Regional Formulary Commission, the National Center for the Rational Use of Medicines, clinics, research institutes, and the RCHR on the development of national clinical protocols for diagnosis and treatment, and conducting clinical trials of medicines.

In order to improve the quality of all types of training sessions, the staff of the department constantly improves their professional and pedagogical qualifications and introduces learning results into the educational process. All employees have certificates of completion of advanced teaching and professional qualifications.
