Lyudmila Gennadievna Turgunova graduated with honors from the Karaganda State Medical Institute in 1991 with a degree in general medicine.

From 01.09.1991 to 31.10.1995 she studied in clinical residency on the specialty 14.00.05-internal diseases at the Karaganda State Medical University. Since 1995 she was an assistant at the Department of Hospital Therapy №1. In 1996 she defended her candidate thesis on the topic «Characteristics of lipid peroxidation and antioxidant status in patients with arterial hypertension of various origins in the dynamics of treatment with calcium antagonists». In 1999 she was transferred to the position of Associate Professor of the Department of Propedeutics of Internal Diseases; since 2001 she was Associate Professor of the Department of Internal Medicine №2. She was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor in 2002.

From 2002 to 2005 she studied for a doctorate. In 2006 she defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic «Acute and chronic leukemia in the adult population of Kazakhstan», in 2007 she was awarded the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences.

In 2011, the Committee for Control in the Sphere of Education and Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan awarded the academic title of Professor.

From 2012 to 2018 L. G. Turgunova was the Head of the Department of Internal Medicine, from 2018 to the present she is Professor of the Department of Internal Medicine.

L. G. Turgunova has the highest qualification categories in the specialty «therapy», in the specialty «hematology», a certificate of a specialist in the specialty «nephrology», a certificate of an expert in conducting an independent examination of the activities of health subjects in the field of assessing the quality of medical services in the specialty «hematology (adult)». He is a member of the professional association of hematologists in Kazakhstan.

L. G. Turgunova is a responsible executor of scientific and technical programs in priority areas: STP «Environmental risks and public health» (2014-2016), «Development of scientific foundations for the formation of a preventive environment in order to preserve public health» (2017-2019), member of the research group of the international project «SPRING» («Determination of tools and objectives of peer review in medical education», 2020-2022). Research interests: biomarkers for chronic noncommunicable diseases, comorbidity, problems of the elderly and senile age, quality of life, research related to COVID-19, research in the field of medical education.

L. G. Turgunova is the author of more than 100 publications, has a prepatent, certificates of intellectual property, implementation in the educational process and in practical health care, 14 teaching aids, 7 recommendations for doctors, is a co-author of the Manual on classifications (section «Hematology»), editor-in-chief of 7 textbooks on modules of internal diseases, the developer of 4 clinical protocols for diagnosis and treatment. She is a member of the organizing committee of 5 international scientific and practical conferences.
