16 July 2015

The Republican training seminar "Acute intestinal infections (children and adults), modern approaches of diagnosis and treatment" was held on the basis of Karaganda State Medical University on 10-11 July 2015.

The seminar was attended by heads of adult and children's infections departments, leading scientists of medical schools (Almaty, Astana, Aktobe, Karaganda, Semey, Shymkent), infectious disease doctors from all regions of Kazakhstan, general practitioners and pediatricians.

Modern approaches to the treatment of DCI, in view of clinical protocols and recommendations of the WHO, analysis of complex and difficult patients, especially for pregnant women, young children and the elderly have been discussed as a part of workshop.

According to the WHO, it is registered annually up to 1-1.2 billion "diarrhoeal diseases" and approximately 5 million children die every year due to OCI and OCI’s complications. Children accounts for 60-65% of all cases of acute intestinal infections, more common in children from 1 year to 7 years. The highest rates are recorded in the age group up to 2 years. For the half of 2015 year 4988 cases of acute intestinal infections was registered in the country, including 3723 children, incidence rate per 100,000 population was 23.5 (2014- 31.1).

Outcomes OCI depend largely on timely treatment, early diagnosis and effective treatment. But even with a favorable course, acute intestinal infections lead to dysfunction of a number of organs and systems that contribute to the formation of children and elderly persons with reduced health index exposure to various infectious and somatic diseases.

All of this leads to the urgency of the problem and provide training for infectious disease specialists, general practitioners, pediatricians, internists, involving leading scientists of medical schools of the Republic of Kazakhstan and neighboring countries in the field of infectology.
