Valuable Recommendations for OSСE development

Valuable Recommendations for OSСE development

13 February 2020

Today, simulations based training is becoming one of the priority areas in medical education. The Center for Simulation and Educational Technologies of the NAO “Medical University of Karaganda” is a leader in providing simulation education  not only domestically but also abroad. In 2017, the work of the Center was recognized as "Excellence in Simulation" and is accredited by the ASPIRE of the European Association for Medical Education (AMEE).

The center has extensive experience in organizing and conducting an Objective Structured Clinical Examination at all levels of medical education. In order to disseminate the experience of conducting the OSCE as part of the visiting professor program of academic mobility, the director of the Center for Simulation and Educational Technologies, G. Kemelova  from February 2 to February 05, 2020 she visited the Batumi Medical School, BAU International University and from February 6 to 08, 2020, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Health of  the Shota Rustaveli after named Batumi State University. In both universities, a master class was held on the topic “Methodology for the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)”.

The main topics of the master class:

• Competency-based training for teachers

• Educational environment for simulation education

• Success factors for simulation education using high-fidelity simulators and manikins

• Evaluation of the results of simulation education

• Improving the reliability of assessing practical skills in a simulation center using various technologies

• Experience in using a standardized patient in teaching clinical disciplines.

At the end of the training, the teachers had a complete understanding of the organization, conduct and evaluation of an objective structured clinical exam.

All students noted the relevance, accessibility and high level of preparation of the material provided by G. Kemelova, and also noted the need for further cooperation between medical schools for the implementation of the tasks for the development of OSCE in Batumi.
