From November 10 to 12, 2021, the 1st training seminar, out of the three once, was held in Nur-Sultan, according to the methods measuring the effectiveness of health systems (HS) in the framework of the project "Technologies for assessing the effectiveness and analysis of the impact of health systems. Comparative analysis at the international level." 

The purpose of the event is to disseminate approaches of assessing the effectiveness of HS among healthcare professionals and to involve them into the project. Zhakenova Saule, Zhamantaev Olzhas (both are from the Schools of Public Health and Biomedicine) and Bobyrev Semyon (Clinic of the Karaganda Medical University) represented KMU.

The first stage involved acquaintance with indicators for assessing the effectiveness of HS. Project coordinators Lyazzat Kosherbaeva, Aizhan Samambayeva and Maria Lopez propose to move away from using traditional indicators such as life expectancy, totaland maternal mortality rates, and pay attention to indicators of treatable and preventable mortality. At the same time, there was a lively discussion about the interpretation and application of these terms in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the world. With the help of cluster analysis, the project participants, using examples, showed how HS of different countries of the world are similar/different by these indicators. Public health experts also remind that for a correct comparison of HS by intensive indicators, these indicators need to be standardized first.

Using the input-output matrix, the mutual influence of different sectors of the country's economy was considered. So, for example, if the healthcare sector hypothetically disappeared in the Republic of Kazakhstan, then the annual losses of the economy would amount to 23%, and in subsequent years this figure would only increase ...

The next stage of the seminar will take place in 2022. Where will they understand in more detail how to assess the contribution of the HS RK to the country's economy and the importance of elements/factors within the HS itself as a whole in the country and in individual regions.
