16th European Public Health Conference

21 November 2023

The 16th European Public Health Conference, on the topic “Our food, Our health, Our Earth: A sustainable future for humanity,” was held in Dublin, Ireland, from November 8–11, 2023. 2,550 delegates from eighty countries were chosen to attend the conference from among a record number of papers that were submitted this year.

Alua Omarova, PhD, Head of the Department of Research Work, represented Karaganda Medical University at the conference and presented a report on “Patients' satisfaction with the current access to and the quality of WASH services in rural hospitals.” Questions were asked during the speech, which made it possible to compare the experiences of different countries in researching and delivering WASH services – water, sanitation, and hygiene to medical and educational facilities as well as enhancing public hygiene standards.

The results of the research “Assessment of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in rural medical facilities of the Karaganda region for an effective response to the COVID-19 pandemic” were made available thanks to the invaluable experience of participating in a conference of this scale.

In addition, highly rated global publishing companies such as Elsevier, Springer Nature, Oxford University, and others organized scientific output exhibitions within the conference. Springer Nature publishing company presented the monograph “Handbook of Human and Planetary Health”, in which the chapter was published “Ways to protect and preserve human and planetary health through the water supply, sanitation and hygiene sector in schools” which was written by Alua Omarova in 2022.

The research team expresses their gratitude to the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan for funding the research, the Karaganda Medical University for the opportunity to conduct the research and the Jouke van der Zee Fund for the grant to cover the registration fee for participation in the conference.
