The University's activities for 2023 have been summarized

On December 21, 2023, the Chairman of the Board-Rector A.A. Turmukhambetova held a reporting meeting with the public at the NCJSC "Karaganda Medical University" as part of an extended meeting of the Senate.

Such reporting meeting with the participation of teachers, staff, students of the NCJSC "KMU" is held annually at the University. The Rector summarized the work for 2023: she gave a detailed analysis of the academic, research, clinical, and financial activities of the University, shared the achievements of the University, and presented tasks and plans for 2024.

Anar Akylbekovna congratulated the staff on the fact that the University has once again confirmed the status of a research university –Government Decree of the Republic of Kazakhstan was issued, which approved the University Development Program for the next 5 years, the purpose of which is to develop  the NCJSC "KMU" as a world–class research university through the integration and development of its educational and research areas.

In her report, the Rector introduced the participants of the meeting with the members of the management body of the NCJSC "Karaganda Medical University" – the Board of Directors, as well as the members of the executive body – the Board. It was noted that the infrastructure of the University has changed due to the completion and putting into service a new dormitory No. 5 with 400 beds and the purchase of a new building, which allows expanding the classroom fund. Reconstruction of the simulation center has also begun this year, after which it is planned to update its equipment, in particular, high-tech simulators and mannequins.

The University has 6 schools, International Medical Faculty, Institute of Life Sciences, 15 departments and 3 centers.

The University's infrastructure allows for the training of qualified specialists in accordance with modern requirements and includes research and sanitary and epidemiological laboratories, a university clinic, including a dental clinic and occupational health clinic.

In 2023, the number of students increased by 9%, which is due to an increase in student enrollment. The total number of students is more than 8,400 people. Over 1300 students are foreign citizens of non-CIS countries.

98% of graduates are employed within the first year after graduation.

The training is conducted in 86 educational programs: 16 bachelor's degree programs, 22 master's degree programs, 6 doctoral programs, 35 residency programs, 7 programs of technical and professional education. Additional education programs, retraining courses, advanced training, master classes and training seminars are being implemented.

At the national level, the educational programs of the bachelor's degree of the NCJSC"KMU" are consistently included in the list of the top in the annual national ranking of educational programs of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Atameken".

NCJSC "KMU" continues to correspond to its status as a research university, actively developing research activities. In 2023, the University's Hirsch index increased by 4 points, the average citation of articles in the Web of Science has doubled, 11 new grant research projects were received, the number of researchers with the Hirsch index is growing, number of publications in the Web of Science and Scopus is increasing. One of the significant achievements is the receipt of a grant for the commercialization of a mobile lift developed at the University.

50% of the teachers are involved in research activities, 14 successful defenses of doctoral theses have been conducted. University scientists continue to publish in reputable scientific publications. 7 university scientists have a Hirsch index more than 6 (L. Arystan,  G. Atazhanova, S. Akhmetova, E. Zhunusov, I. Kadyrova, I. Korshukov, D. Khrustalev). The university is especially proud of the grant for the commercialization of the invention of our student, now a graduate Pavel Ivachev, is a mobile lift for people with disabilities. A production site for the manufacture of devices will be opened soon. The University staff received the title of the best scientists of Kazakhstan.

International cooperation of the NCJSC "KMU" is carried out with more than 100 organizations from around the world, it is aimed at the development of joint educational, scientific and clinical activities, the implementation of academic exchange of students and teachers, internships, the development and implementation of joint educational programs, and events.

 In 2023, new memoranda were signed, according to which active work has already begun, and which will be continued next year. In the digital infrastructure of the University, a new website is being developed, which will begin its work in 2024, the Student Service Center has the opportunity to generate certificates with confirmation on the website, a modern interactive video recording studio was purchased as part of the Erasmus+ FOR21 project. This year, new modules were introduced in the AIS Platonus: "Dormitory", "Schedule", "SSC", "Psychometric testing", a new version of LMS Moodle was introduced, technical support module for the Session platform for conducting written exams was developed.

The Rector focused on clinical activities, achievements of students, issues of human resource development, income and expenses of the University.

Summarizing the results of the reporting meeting, it should be said that the achievements of the University in all areas became possible thanks to the close-knit work of the staff and students. The University has many tasks ahead within the framework of the approved Development Program.
