29 December 2014

Research and instructional methodology workshop was held on December 9, 2014.From now on, Educational Board of KSMU and its Center for Analysis and Innovations in Medical Education will organize such workshops every three months. Their primary purpose is to create a platform for discussion of educational process in our University, sharing experience and enhance the education.

The topic of the previous workshop was not random one. Starting this year, “General Medicine” and “Dentistry” are teaching using credit transfer system. These are the two most demanded specialties in our University. Heads of the departments, junior and senior teachers took part in the workshop.

The plenary started with the discussion of general questions of reorganization of education under the credit transfer system. The Prorector in Education V.B. Molotov-Luchanskiy told about the positive sides of this system and highlighted some problem areas. The Head of Instructional Unit of Academic Deparment I.M. Riklefs gave the overview of current tendencies of credit transfer system in the world. The discussion then moved to several simultaneous sessions.

The heads and senior teachers of Departments of Pathology, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Anatomy, Histology, Physiology, Basic Clinical Medicine, and Visual Diagnostics discussed the modern trends in integrated teaching of basic sciences in the context of credit transfer system.

The instructors from clinical departments discussed the positive and problematic moments in the clinical education organization in the context of credit transfer system.

The main topic of discussion of other basic sciences departments was the organization of students’ individual work. The participants outlined the different approaches to students’ individual work existing in different departments and agreed on the necessity of coming to the joint understanding.

The participants of the session “Incorporation of simulation education into clinical teaching” discussed the strategy of simulation education in KSMU and methods of organization of students’ individual study in the Center of Practical Skills. The participants mentioned the necessity of creating the simulation of educational program for the residency training.

The parallel sessions were rather productive and the approaches to further improvement of credit transfer systems were outlined.
