Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repression

On May 29 of 2015 year, activists of scientific sector of CSSG, together with the Alliance of Students of Kazakhstan held a round table devoted to the Day of Memory of Victims of Political Repression.

While the Soviet Union existence tough repressive state policy led to significant amount of victims. Repression touched millions of Soviet citizens. Only in Kazakhstan, during the famine in 1932-1933 years, more than a half million people were died and more than 600 thousand Kazakhs left the Republic. Policy authorities have repeatedly provoked armed uprisings that were violently suppressed every time.

The reports concerning the scale of political repression, biographies of prominent figures of culture, science, the arts who has been repressed were presented during the round table. So, in 1928, on charges of "bourgeois nationalism" were arrested such persons as Akhmed Baitursynov, Myrzhakyp Dulatov, Magzhan Zhumabaev, Zhusupbek Aymautov, Halel Gabbassov and others. In September 1930, Mukhamedzhan Tynyshpayev, Halel Dosmukhamedov, Zhakyp Akbaev and others were arrested. Almost all these persons were repressed in 1937-1938: such as Turar Ryskulov, Nygmet Nurmakov, Sultanbek Khodzhanov, Uzakbai Kulumbetov, Uraz Dzhandosov, Abilhair Dosov, Smagul Sadvakasov, Temirbek Zhurgenov, Alikhan Bukeikhanov, Saken Seifullin, Ilyas Dzhansugurov, Beimbet Maylin, Kudaibergen Zhubanov, Sanzhar Asfendiyarov and others have to be remembered also as victims of political repression. Streets and public institutions in Kazakhstan are named by the names of these worthy sons of the Kazakh people. Their writings are explores by the school pupils, students and scientists. Monuments and memorial boards were placed in the country in their honor.
