Development of nursing in Kazakhstan: New opportunities and prospects

Improving nursing education at the master's and PhD levels is an important step in the development of nursing science in Kazakhstan. On January 11-13, 2021, a Kick-Off meeting of a new project - AccelEd “Accelerating Master and PhD level nursing education development in the higher education system in Kazakhstan” took place, thereby marking the launch of the project in Kazakhstan. The project is being implemented within the framework of the European Union Erasmus + program aimed at developing higher education.

 The project partners are the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and Science, 4 European (Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Lithuania, JAMK University of Applied Sciences, Finland, Abo Akademi University, Finland, University Medical Centre Utrecht, Netherlands) and 5 Kazakhstani universities (Astana Medical University, Kazakh National Medical University, Karaganda Medical University, Nazarbayev University, South Kazakhstan Medical Academy).

At the meeting, the Kazakh and European partners discussed the project's objectives related to modern challenges in the field of nursing, innovations in nursing, new prospects for students in this specialty and practicing nurses.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the National Office of the Erasmus + Program, WHO, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republican Center for Health Development, the Paryz Nursing Association, medical universities of Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Finland and the Netherlands.

At the Karaganda Medical University, the project is being implemented by members of a temporary research team: Omarkulov B.K., Kuanysh Zh.M., Sadueva F.Kh. Meyermanova I.B., Aitmagambetov A.R., Tsay N.V.,

The AccelEd project will promote training in the specialty "Nursing" at the level of postgraduate education, will give nurses more opportunities for self-realization not only in clinical practice, but also in teaching and research work. Thanks to master classes, seminars and internships within the framework of the project, undergraduates and doctoral students, teachers will be able to expand their knowledge and scientific understanding of their activities.
