Humanity as the basis for the medical worker education!

21 December 2022

The assistant - professor of the Department « History of Kazakhstan and SPD» Galina Galiya Fanilievna organized visit the shelter-cafe «At the red cat» with 2nd course students of the specialties «General Medicine» and «Dentistry» as part of the philosophy course.  Moreover, the philosophical concepts of good and evil are study during the lesson topic «Philosophy of Culture and Society». Good and kindness should be expressed in a well and caring attitude, not only to each other, but also to our smaller brothers, to nature, to the world as a whole. The visit had not only academical, but also educational feature, with the development of such qualities as compassion, mercy, humanity, which is very important for the future medical workers!

Shelter cafe «At the red cat» is a unique place in Karaganda where visitors can enjoy the company of our smaller brothers, play, caress, feed them, help as a volunteer or curator for animals. Unfortunately, the life of each inhabitant was very sad, and they needed urgent aid - cars hit someone, others suffered from human cruelty, and someone was blackguardly thrown out as unnecessary and left to die. And, most of the cafe inhabitants are purebred cats and dogs that were toys for their former owners. Thanks to the real, compassionate People with a big heart who saved them. The founder of the shelter, animal rights activist Inna Radchenko, at the meeting with students, said about the idea of cafe’s creating, about the problems that zoo volunteers face daily.

With particular bitterness, Inna told the students about the history of almost every cat and dog, and there are about 200 of them under care of animal rights activists. All animals were treated and sterilized at the expense of donations from ordinary citizens. Unfortunately, the shelter is not able to help all the poor stray animals. It was noted additionally, that the treatment, food, housing and arrangement of animals lies entirely on the zoo volunteers and caring people who try and can provide all possible material and physical support. Every cats and dogs, who lives in a bad condition need not only human attention and care, but also financial and legal support from the government, which, unfortunately, is very little or completely absent.

Based on the feedback of our students, visiting the shelter caused a positive response in their hearts:

- «This experience of communicating with stray and sick animals for us, as future doctors, was very valuable, as it allows us to further develop a sense of empathy, compassion and mercy, which will be very important throughout our education and medical practice! After all, the most important principle underlying healing is humanity», – Aron.

- «The main concept of this cafe is to help poor animals and prevent cruelty to them. I really liked the fact that cafe may help such animals, they are very affectionate, cute, they purr and sit on our laps with pleasure and can pose for photos. We had the opportunity to be with cats and dogs as many of us are away from family and miss our pets at home. In addition, we were able to visit those animals that are being treated at the veterinary clinic», - Dayana.

- «It is very sad to realize that someone sees a solution to the problem in trapping and shooting stray animals! Killing a living being leads to the spread of violence and the degradation of society. Love, kindness, compassion, humanity, understanding - such values will not let us collapse into the greedy and cruel world of chaos. And these values should prevail not only among medical workers, but also among all decent citizens of Kazakhstan», -  Shugyla.

Students also expressed their vision of solving the problem:

  - «We, the youth of New Kazakhstan, future doctors, must be deeply aware of the problems of animals. It seems to me that the most correct solution should be to toughen the punishment for cruel attitude to the pets. From early childhood, it is necessary to develop a sense of love and care for animals, to instill measures for full responsibility for the life and health of their pets», - Alua.

- «And how can we solve the problem of the annual distribution of stray cats and dogs? It is possible to initiate the introduction of new legislative acts on the proper treatment of animals, to determine the list of rights and obligations for animal owners, to outline the range of legal norms and rules for their keeping. I think that government funding should not cover the capture and killing of animals, but go for sterilization, support for animal protection organizations, and the opening of state shelters for the stray animals», -  Leila.

  - «We are, future doctors, medical students can provide charitable assistance and volunteer support to the shelter - feed, clean, carry out the necessary medical manipulations. And in general, all people should do good to each other, to animals, to support animal rights activists in their hard work! », - Nikita.

Indeed, animal protection issues are very relevant, and the solution to the problems of violence and irresponsible attitude towards cats and dogs should have state-legal nature. Recognition of animals, a friendly attitude towards them, the development and support of animal protection organizations will lead to a safe and ethical understanding in society.
