The trip to the Museum of Political Repressions at Dolinka village

21 November 2014

“History of Kazakhstan” discipline has to promote patriotism, tolerance, and respect to our history among Kazakhstani people. Our president Nazarbayev often tells that our heroic and tragical past consolidates us all as a single nation.

On December 11, 2014, as a part of learning process teachers of the “History of Kazakhstan and humanities” department organized a trip for students to the Museum of Political Repressions at Dolinka village. The trip coincided with an academic topic of political repressions of 1930-1950 which is included in the curriculum of the “History of Kazakhstan” discipline. 1005, 1006 and 1009 groups, foreign department students, under the guidance of A.M. Abayev and O.A. Kovtun were the first to visit the museum.

The next groups to visit the museum were 124 and 127 groups, Kazakh department, under K.Zh. Abdrakhmanova and 171 and 172 groups, Russian department, under A.B. Dolgopolov and A.I. Ongarbayeva.  The museum guides told students about the totalitarian era. Students saw grim prison cells where the repressed citizens of the USSR were kept, including Kazakhstani peoples, and dire places where innocent prisoners were tortured.  The students were touched the most by the natural size wax figures of investigators, guards, and innocent convicted people. During the excursion, teachers discussed the topic with the students. This activity touched the feelings of the all involved. We believe the tragical past should not be forgotten. The things like those we saw in the museum should not repeat in the future.

A.  Dolgopolov, senior teacher of the “History of Kazakhstan and humanities” department
